MÉDECINS DU MONDE

For its new awareness campaign, Médecins du Monde called on our studio to create the film “The Strength of Experience” (La force de l’expérience). The project places people affected by health, social and environmental inequalities at the heart of the action.

It recognises their lived experience, knowledge and skills as genuine expertise, complementary to medical and technical skills.

The aim is to develop a participatory approach in which the people concerned can take part in the assessment, design, implementation and evaluation of projects.

This approach can take many forms: peer workers, community liaisons, community health workers, local associations, or simply service users and residents.

Depending on the field (harm reduction, migration, environmental health, sexual and reproductive health, or access to rights and care), MdM adapts the ways people can participate to their realities and needs. The project thus seeks to move from an approach where MdM acts “for” people to one where the organisation acts “with” them, recognising them as agents of change.

Finally, the approach emphasises genuine and respectful participation: not exploiting people’s voices, avoiding stereotyped portrayals, and showing MdM in a role of listening and support rather than at the centre of change.
